The national average diesel price continued its downward push, dropping 4.5 cents to reach $3.947 a gallon, according to data released April 29.

Highlights

• The average diesel price has been below $4 a gallon in three of the past five weeks. Prior to April 1, a gallon hadn’t cost less than $4 on average since Feb. 5 when it was $3.899.
• A gallon of diesel now costs 7.1 cents less than at this time in 2023.
• Diesel’s average price declined in all 10 regions in , ranging from a high of 9.6 cents a gallon in the Rocky Mountain region to a low of 1.7 cents in New England.
• The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dipped 1.5 cents to $3.653. That’s 5.3 cents more than it cost at this time a year ago.
