STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tesla has issued a safety recall for two of its best-selling vehicles.
The company is currently recalling certain model years of its Model 3 sedan, along with a number of Model Y SUVs over seat belt issues, with over 375,000 potentially affected vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The 376,241 vehicles that are affected were sold under model year 2023 and were manufactured between February and October 2023, according to the recall notice.
The recall is due to issues with the power assist steering after a full stop.

The circuit board for the electronic power steering assist could experience what recall documents call an “overstress condition,” which would result in a loss of power assisted steering when the vehicle stops and then accelerates again, which cold increase the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.
The issue is believed to only affect vehicles with operating software older than version 2023.38.4, according to the company.
The company adds that users would also see the following warning: “Steering assist reduced. Steering may require increased effort.”

Tesla has already released an over-the-air software update, addressing the issue free of charge.
The company will fully notify affected owners of the recall beginning in late March, according to the notice.
Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 to see if their car is affected by the recall.
Last month, the electric vehicle manufacturer also recalled over 239,000 vehicles due to a failure of the rearview camera, which could impact rear visibility and lead to an increased risk of a collision.
