The trucking industry continued to weather an increase in cargo theft activity during the second quarter of 2024.

Thieves stole $17.2 million worth of cargo in the United States and Canada during the second quarter of 2017, down from $35.1 million in the year-ago period, data tracking firm CargoNet reported.

Cargo thefts declined in reported incidences and value in the second quarter, according to CargoNet, a provider of information designed to prevent cargo theft.

Since Jan. 1, there have been 358 reported supply chain risk incidents in the United States and Canada, according to data from CargoNet.

Cargo thefts fell for the third consecutive year in terms of reported incidents, but the value of the stolen goods rose 13.3% to $114 million, according to 2016 data from CargoNet.
