Bankrupt battery maker Northvolt AB will continue to operate in Sweden with a staff of 1,700 while its remaining employees will be laid off.

Northvolt AB filed for bankruptcy in Sweden, bringing to an end a company that was once seen as the future of Europe’s battery production.

Swedish battery maker Northvolt AB has been granted a second deadline extension to file schedules and statements with a bankruptcy court in the U.S., according to a ruling on Jan. 15.
