North American Class 8 orders in March ended a short-lived recovery by dropping to 19,200 units, ACT Research reported.

North American Class 8 orders in March were just over 21,000 and kept pace with the levels over the past few months, ACT Research reported, citing truck makers’ preliminary data.

U.S. trailer order volume was the lowest of the year but well above last year’s comparable results that were depressed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Class 8 used truck market in August reflected the trend toward improving sales as prices remained below year-earlier levels, conditions that are expected to mark the full year, ACT Research reported.

U.S. trailer orders in August topped 27,000 as they rose 150% year-over-year, ACT Research reported.

Net U.S. trailer orders in October surged to 31,786 units, reaching the highest volume since November 2018 despite an overall slowing freight market, ACT Research reported.

The average used Class 8 brought a sharply higher sales price in April, even as inventories appear to be building, ACT Research reported. The average price was $48,532, up 15% compared with $42,100 a year earlier.

The market for used Class 8s in March continued to butt heads with a lack of inventory amid still-strong demand. Sales slipped, and prices rose.

U.S. retail sales of Class 8 trucks shot up 49% in February to nearly 17,000 units as all but one truck maker posted high double-digit gains.

Strength in dry vans pushed U.S. trailer orders in September to near 23,000, up 76% from a year earlier, ACT Research reported.
