When it comes to cargo theft, thieves can — and do — steal anything.  As more cargo goes missing, insurance premiums for policies to cover the losses start edging higher.

The trucking industry expects an uptick in cargo theft activity, related to peak shipping season, on top of already elevated conditions, experts warned.

Cargo theft is often a subtle process, making it difficult to prevent. With cargo thieves relying increasingly on subterfuge, the security apparatus on the shop floor must evolve accordingly.

The trucking industry continued to weather an increase in cargo theft activity during the second quarter of 2024.
